History of
Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla in Australia
Although the Hungarian
Wirehaired Vizsla originated in the 1930s in Hungary, the
breed did not make its way to Australia until around 2000.
At this time, a male was imported from England however,
breed recognition was not undertaken at that time.
The breed was approved
for exhibition by the ANKC from January 2007. At that
time, the country's original import, Ch Silvanus Lord Nelson
(Imp UK) [pictured below], then about 7 years old, was the
first dog to compete and attain an Australian Champion
title.

Since 2007 more Hungarian Wirehaired Vizslas have made
their way to our shores. These include a further
import from the UK being now Ch Throstlenest Miz Moneypenny of
Silvanus (Imp UK) [pictured below] "Penny" from Donna Holman (Silvanus).
Penny is really the breed's foundation dam in this country.
Penny is the mother of Crispin and the first litter whelped
in Australia.

More imports have
arrived in the last three years, including four
from Hungary and three from England. The breed has also found its way
to the shores of New Zealand.
Since the breed hit
the show ring, many awards have been achieved including
class in group and in show. The breeds first Best
Exhibit in Group (G1) in Australia was awarded in 2009.
To date, Crispin is
the only Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla to compete in areas
other than the show ring.
